This list covers 30 examples of fiction and 10 non-fiction books . (shelved times as short-fiction) avg rating — 61, ratings — published Want to Read saving.

The above types of books can be further divided into many sub-categories and each of these sub-categories is a genre. We will discuss the different genres of books under fiction and non-fiction categories. (Please Note that it is totally possible for the same book to be categorized under many book genres.

Short Stories. Though they encompass many of the genres we describe here, short stories are brief prose that are significantly, well, shorter than novels.

Writers strictly tell their narratives through a specific theme and a series of brief scenes, though many authors compile these stories in wide-ranging collections, as featured : Mckenzie Jean-Philippe.

The type of fiction that gets the most attention these days, the novel, is the longest of the three types of fiction. From Harry Potter to War and Peace, these are generally the books with lots. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is an example of popular young adult fiction. Children’s Books.

Children’s fiction is often called children’s literature or juvenile fiction. Books in this genre are written with readers under the age of 12 in mind. Types of children’s books include picture books Types of short fiction book chapter books.

To discuss the different types of short stories, first I should define a short story. A short story is a piece of brief literature, usually written in narrative prose. Short stories can be written in a variety of formats, but the most typical features a small cast of characters with names and focuses on a single, self-contained incident.

We found the best fiction books ofranging from historical fiction to romance, fantasy, and even creepy thrillers and mystery. No matter what fiction books. Flash Fiction ( - 1, words): This is the type of short-short story you would expect to find in a glossy magazine, often used to fill one page of quick romance (or quick humor, in men's mags) Very popular, quick and easy to write, and easier to sell.

United States About Blog Unbound Worlds is a website dedicated to the literary worlds of science fiction and fantasy.

Unbound Worlds offers readers insight into books and authors across and between the science fiction and fantasy worlds, including horror, slipstream, pop science, fairy tales and folklore, magical realism, urban fantasy, and anything that's just a little bit weird.

With genre leader Stephen King said to have a net profit of $ million and Dean Koontz with $ million, horror's clearly a popular genre - but it's undeniably a smaller niche than some of the popular genres, valued at under $80 million.

Readers enjoy being scared and they're loyal to their favourites, which is perhaps why King and Koontz - although having both written out of the genre. A new video for students to assist them in differentiating the different forms of fiction. The video introduces students to four different forms of fiction: realistic fiction, historical fiction.

The article gives suggestions for genres, or categories of books, that are important to include in your family’s reading routines. Although the blog post features a few genres, I thought it would be helpful to go a little more in-depth on the different types of fiction and non-fiction that young readers should be reading.

Commercial fiction is sometimes called genre fiction because books of this type often fall into categories, such as western, gothic, romance, historical, mystery and horror. Mainstream Fiction Fiction that transcends popular novel categories—mystery, romance or science fiction, [etc.]—is called mainstream fiction.

As a writer or reader of fiction, you'll encounter many types of characters. From round characters and flat characters to stock characters and protagonists, all characters have their place.

As a writer, you may want to avoid or handle some of these character types delicately. Even micro-fiction is divided into different types. For example, “55 Fiction” is exactly what it sounds like: a work of fiction exactly 55 words long. “Drabble” fiction is words long, and I’m sure you can guess the word count for “69er” fiction.

And Twitter fiction can’t. The Third Element of Fiction: Setting. Setting is one of my personal favorite elements. This includes the physical location (real or invented) and the social environment of the story (including chronology, culture, institutions, etc.).

I love setting because, in many ways, it’s like a character. Jax Miller: Switching From Fiction to True Crime. In this post, Miller shares what inspired her to switch writing genres (from fiction to true crime), move to Oklahoma, sit with convicted murderers and in meth labs, and more.

A previous post detailed synonyms for entry defines words identifying various genres — categories of story types — and similar terms: 1.

Adventure fiction: stories in which characters are involved in dangerous and/or exhilarating exploits. Most popular fiction resolves with a happy ending because the readers demand such. Genre Fiction is Easier to Sell.

It’s called popular fiction for a reason. Genre fiction is an easier sell. Fans of a specific genre are often drawn to reading more books that tell the same type of story.

WORD COUNT FOR MIDDLE GRADE FICTION. Middle grade is f - 55, depending on the subject matter and age range, and the word count of these books has been trending up in recent years.

When writing a longer book that is aimed at year-olds (and could maybe be considered "tween"), using the term "upper middle grade" is advisable.
