I received a copy of Song of the Skylark from Hachette New Zealand to review. When I first read the synopsis of this I really wanted to know Mrs Dallimore’s story. This book is told in multiple perspectives, Lizzie and her family and also Mrs Dallimore, or Clarissa /5.

When I realized that Song of a Skylark was a dual time frame book, like the Dandelion Years, I had some misgivings even though I usually like this type of book. I am so pleased I was wrong to have doubts as I really enjoyed this book/5(). Erica James is my favorite romance author.

But her stories are so much more than romance novels. They are great character studies and this particular story, The Song of the Skylark, deals very sensitively with a heroic in-the-closet gay character /5.
